STLMSC Gives Back

Over the last few years, STLMSC members have generously donated funds to STLMSC during the annual membership registration process. We have used these funds to provide scholarships to our members attending coach certification courses and Adult Learn to Swim instructor certificaioon courses, to support meet hosts, and to donate money to organizations that promote aquatics fitness and safety. Additionally, STLMSC donated 100% of the profits from the Speedo 5k/10K ePostal National Championship we hosted in 2016. For this event, we donated $2,000 each to the USMS Swimming Saves Lives Foundation and Colin’s Hope.

Additionally, STLMSC is in a good position financially because we have increased our membership every year for the last 7 years and we have done a good job controlling our expenses.

Based on STLMSC’s current financial position, the membership voted at the annual membership meeting on June 17 to make donations to several swimming-related charity organizations as follows:

Austin American-Statesman Swim Safe program ($3,000)
Since 2000, the Safe Swim program, through programs offered by the YMCA and City of Austin Aquatics, has provided swim lessons to over 12,000 at-risk children. For more details about the program, visit the program website at http://community.statesman.com/swim_safe.php.

We encourage STLMSC members to considering supporting this organization with individual donations. If you make a donation, please list STLMSC in the “Organization” field for tracking purposes.

Swim Across America ($1,500)
Swim Across America’s mission is to unify the swimming community to fund life-saving cancer research and clinical trials. Since its inception, Swim Across America has raised over $65 million to fund cancer research. For more details about the program, visit the program website at http://www.swimacrossamerica.org/site/PageNavigator/SAA_Homepage.html.

We encourage STLMSC members to considering supporting this organization with individual donations. If you make a donation, please list STLMSC in the “Note” field for tracking purposes.

Swimming and Diving Hall of Fame ($1,000)
The Texas Swimming & Diving Hall of Fame exists to showcase great achievements and accomplishments from the state’s rich aquatic history. The Hall of Fame was the brainchild of Tex Robertson, the former UT Swimming coach and a long time Masters swimmer. The Hall of Fame is housed at the Texas Swimming Center at the University of Texas and we encourage you to visit the exhibits. For more details about the Hall of Fame and to make a personal donation, visit the website at http://www.tsdhof.org/.

We encourage STLMSC members to consider supporting this organization with individual donations. If you make a donation, please list STLMSC in the “Message of Support” field for tracking purposes.
